Letters to our sons: Moments & memories | Oklahoma city, okc, yukon, mustang baby photographer
January 5, 2013
My sons,
Throughout the day, I like to pause and try to see things as you see them. An oldĀ receipt becomes a treasure map, a blanket becomes a cape, a red sock becomes Elmo. A trip to the grocery store (which I’m dreading) is an adventure and within each aisle lies a mystery. I soak up the moments when big brother says “stay with me a little longer” before nap time or when little brother says “get you” (meaning “pick me up”).
Moments I never want to forget…
…little brother sticking out his bottom lip to “pucker” to give kisses
…big brother bringing his toys to daddy to make him feel better when he’s sick
…little brother following big brother around the house everywhere and copying his movements
…big brother telling little brother “you’re my best friend.”
There will be a day when you’re grown. You will get your driver’s license, and I will flash back to the moment you drove your first toy car. You will start your own family, and I’ll flash back to the moments when you told me “you’re my favorite person.” You will go to college and I will flash back to the moment you first wrote your own name. You will walk through my front door as a grown man and I will flash back to your first wobbly steps. And all of these moments will just be memories. I’m soaking it in.
