How to get 10 images from 1 pose | Newborn Photography Tips
March 1, 2013
As newborn photographers, we work hard to perfect a pose. The baby is in a milk induced sleepy coma, we get everything set up just right, the light angled perfectly, situate the baby, pat the baby, shhhhhh the baby, pat the baby, rock the baby… and there they are. Adorable newborn perfection. We click the shutter and we have ONE image. I had a lightbulb moment at this session when I realized how many images you can get from one pose without disturbing baby!
#1 – photograph baby just as you seem them!
#2 – Come in close for the vertical! I don’t know about you, but a LOT of my newborn shots end up horizontal. I like to mix it up and add vertical shots sometimes.
#3 – Vary your perspective. I love this angle because it shows her little head resting on those tiny fingers. Sweetness.
#4 – Add a wrap! I didn’t disturb baby at all for this shot. I just tucked a little wrap around her so she appears to be swaddled.
#5 – Shoot from above. This is great because, again, it emphasizes those little clasped hands. Also, I love how the pattern on the blanket looks like it’s pointing at her.
#6 – #10 Macro shots! These are easy to snap in this pose after you have done everything else. Everyone loves these shots of their baby’s little features.
There you have it, 6-10 ways to get more images and perspectives from one pose. If you have any ideas yourself, I’d love to read them in the comments!
