5 ideas for displaying your portraits in your home
February 15, 2016
Designing, arranging and hanging your own images in your home can be so daunting. As a photographer, I didn’t have any images of my kids hanging for YEARS. That’s right, I preached and preached to my clients to print and hang their portraits. While I was printing them, I was paralyzed with fear as to where I would hang them and how I would arrange everything.
I listed below 5 easy ways to display your portraits that in fun and easy, including all the sizes!
This is a collection of items I have hanging over my daughter’s changing table. I over analyzed this set up for WAY too long before I decided to go ahead and hang it up as it (something is better than nothing, right?) I included 4 5×7 frames in the collection. I love the idea of pairing a large portrait with another art piece that matches. I found this wooden piece at hobby lobby (on sale of course) to pair with one of my favorite images of all three of my kids (printed on canvas).
A common objection I hear from moms regarding newborn or birth photos is “well, I didn’t do it with my first baby …. ” Here is an example of how I incorporated a beautiful newborn image of my daughter with my two sons (who didn’t have professional newborn portraits taken).
Also, 16×20 is a great size for your hallways!
This is the wall collection I analyzed the longest before deciding it give it a go.
Once we hung our TV above the mantle, I was left with a huge blank wall that was screaming for decor.
The bible verse in the black is also from Hobby lobby. If you see anything in my house other than portraits on the wall.. you’re safe to assume it’s from hobby lobby.
All those items on the shelf are from, you guessed it, hobby lobby.
This is a small cluster I put together for the entryway. It sums up our family pretty well, and I included an 11×14 fun portrait of our family.
Hopefully this blog post gives you a few ideas on how to begin thinking about hanging portraits in your home!
