Oklahoma home birth photography | Homebirth of baby Jack
May 2, 2016
Baby Jack sure wanted to keep me on my toes!
We had tornadoes in Oklahoma (imagine that) the night before Jack was born. His mama had been waiting very patiently for his arrival. At almost 41 weeks, she had everything in their home ready for him. Birth affirmations hung, birth pool ready to go.. all they needed was little Jack. Of course, the storms brought labor, but it fizzled out that night after all the storms.
The next morning, I got a call from dad saying mom was in labor and this was the real deal. Birth team, assemble! (That was what big brother kept saying during labor, and it CRACKED me up!!)
Noooo! I knew how important these photos were to mama, so I was praying like crazy (and speeding like crazy) to get to mama (in rush hour, in Edmond, with what felt like 20 school zones in the way).
I made it just in time, walked in as mom was pushing.
She hit the “I can’t do this anymore, I’m done” wall about 10 minutes later. Her fabulous midwife, doula & husband kept reassuring her she was strong enough, and she proved us all right.
Her midwife’s shirt said “Vaginas do open, babies do come out.” Mom said she kept staring at that phrase on her shirt to encourage herself in those last few contractions.
Big brothers and family were cheering next to mom <3
9 pounds, 14 ounces!! Rockstar mama!!
Brian and Samantha, thank you so much for allowing me to photograph Jack’s birth. You make such an amazing team, and it was an honor to witness your strength. I hope you cherish these photos forever and remember how powerful and strong you are!!
