I love photographing newborns! I’ve been an Oklahoma newborn photographer for 5 years, and I adore every single squishy face that comes in the studio. In all that time, I’ve developed a very effective process. I hadn’t even realized others had noticed until a mom was in studio for her newborn son’s session and she joked that the baby had been Tavia-ed!
So what is getting Tavia-ed? 😆
It’s what happens when your sweet babe sleeps through the entire session! (Or most of it, at least.)
Newborns are much easier to pose when they’re snoozing, so over the years I’ve mastered techniques and tricks to keep babies deep in slumber while I snap pictures all around them.
The process starts before our session even begins. In fact it starts with you, the parent! I go over my recommendations before the session, including what to wear (and not to wear!). But the most important recommendation? RELAX.
I’ve been photographing newborns for years. Plus I have three beautiful kids of my own, so your baby is totally and completely safe in my care. I’ve even been known to change a diaper with one hand 😆
If you follow the recommendations I give, your baby will arrive sleepy and hungry. That’s why I ask parents to feed their baby as soon they arrive, so your little one will doze off with a full belly. After that, your job is done and it’s time to “Tavia” your baby.
I start by undressing your baby, and yes, that includes diapers!
Because babies are absolutely perfect when they’re wearing nothing at all, I make sure they stay comfortable by keeping the studio extra warm, typically around 80 degrees. With the full belly and warm environment, babies simply want to curl up and sleep! I help them do it in the cutest ways by posing them with swaddles and props.
I use my “Tavia-ed” magic to keep your baby sleeping through each new pose. The magic includes white noise, space heaters, heating blankets, and my special “sshhing” and rocking technique. Despite the flurry of activity around them, your baby will sleep through it all.
Ok, occasionally my magic isn’t quite enough and a sweet little babe will stir and wake up. Not to worry! That’s why we ask you to bring a bottle or pacifier with you (if possible). I’ll rock your baby back to sleep and get right back to work. And if it happens more than once? No problem. There is absolutely no rush in your session.
In case you haven’t guessed, getting Tavia-ed isn’t just for your baby, it’s a family affair. Because I take care of everything during the session, mom and dad can take it easy on the couch! My magic touch often extends to the parents – many of them even take a nap during the session.
Ready to get Tavia-ed?
I still have some availability for a newborn session in 2016. Contact me to see if I still have your due date available!
