( Oklahoma City Newborn Studio ) Mellie: A Name as Sweet as Honey
Telling family about your pregnancy can be one of the most fun parts of sharing the news. What was once a secret between the two of you is finally something everyone can share in the excitement about. These two parents who came to my Oklahoma City newborn studio, Callie and Grant had some fun ways of doing that. For Grant’s parents, they gave them a bottle of sparkling cider with a label to congratulate them… on graduating from dog grandparents to human grandparents. 🙂 Then, all four brothers in the family received shirts that said, “I’m the favorite uncle.”
I can absolutely see why there would be so much competition to be the favorite. 😉
Callie said she definitely craved the food her mother made growing up during her pregnancy. That and tikka masala. She even wanted lemonade, which she normally hates! So a little bit of nostalgia, a little bit of spice and…a drink that she normally can’t stand! (Pregnancy is weird, y’all.)
According to my totally scientific research on Google, only about 5% of babies are born on their due dates, and this little girl happened to be one of them! Only 3 hours after Callie’s water broke, the Johnsons’ baby came so fast that the doctor had to scramble to get his scrubs and gloves on.
What’d they name this precious bundle? Melina Jean. Her name is just full of amazing meaning to these two new parents. First of all, Mellie is the word for “honey” in Greek, and Callie is half Greek, so they chose a more “grown-up” name which could lend the nickname Mellie. Grant was really close to his grandfather, Melvin, so Mellie has double significance to both of them. Jean was Callie’s grandmother’s name, a woman who was very special to her. Mellie Jean is totally just the perfect name for their little one.
Grant says he’s having lots of fun being a parent so far, and Callie has found that rather than limiting their lifestyle, having a baby has just made life that much sweeter. “It’s like we get to do all of our favorite things with a little buddy to tag along!” Callie says she has really enjoyed watching her daughter change every day and learn new things. And “seeing her giant grins at people she recognizes.”
It’s so obvious this little girl is just surrounded by love and warmth in her family. <3
