How did you choose your baby’s name?
If you’re anything like me, you heard a name that you liked and you didn’t know anyone from your past that tainted the name (😂), and voila – that became your baby’s name!
My amazing clients Megan and Chris have such an incredible story about how they chose their son Lucas’ name.
Let me share a bit about their family + share some of their Oklahoma City Newborn Photography Studio Photos!
The choice of the name ‘Lucas’ wasn’t just about what sounded good.
No, it was more profound than that!
Lucas means ‘bringer of light,’ and given the circumstances surrounding his birth, this name was just so fitting.
Born with a heart condition, Lucas was indeed a ray of light breaking through some challenging clouds. His parents’ strength and love brought light into a situation that could have been very dark.
He even got to wear a special heart monitor for his session!
Now, let’s rewind a bit to the moment Megan and Chris found out they were expecting Lucas.
They already had a daughter (who I was honored to photograph in 2019). Adding another member to the family was a joy they wanted to savor 😍 so they decided to keep the pregnancy news a little secret, a special private joy, just a bit longer than usual.
They told their families around 12 and 14 weeks but held off on announcing it to friends until around the 20-week mark. Megan said this secret-keeping phase was special, as it was their second and possibly their last baby.
With the pregnancy came Megan’s cravings and Megan said the thing she craved was CARBS – the better!
(I mean, same, and I’m not pregnant 😂)
And to wash it down she wanted ice-cold water – the colder, the better. Ah, the unique pleasures of pregnancy!
As for the question of who little Lucas looked like, Megan thought he took after her with his skin tone and white-blond hair, just like she had as a baby. It’s fascinating how genetics work their magic, isn’t it?
Megan had an emergency C-section with her first child, and she had hoped for a chance at a VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean) this time around.
But life had other plans. With Lucas’s heart condition, the safest route for both mother and baby was another C-section.
Despite her initial disappointment, Megan found peace with this decision.
Megan said it was so different this time around! Instead of it being an emergency, she walked into the OR, engaged in conversation with everyone around, and felt a profound sense of peace and reassurance.
Lucas’s delivery was a moment of great relief and joy but also a time of urgency as he needed immediate care due to his heart condition. As soon as he was born, the medical staff rushed him over for respiratory support and heart rate checks. Chris was there by Lucas’s side, a pillar of strength and love for his newborn son.
The joy of welcoming Lucas into the world was also about seeing the bond forming between him and his big sister. Megan’s favorite thing about being a parent for the second time was watching this magical bond develop. She found it heartwarming to see how much her daughter already loved her little brother.
Parenthood, as Megan put it, is about how your heart grows. And not just in size, but in its capacity to love & to hope. Welcoming Lucas into the world has expanded her heart to include the love she has for her first daughter and now her son.
Their journey hasn’t been easy, but Megan and Chris have shown incredible strength, resilience, and positivity.
Thank you, Megan and Chris, for letting me be part of your beautiful journey again and for allowing me to capture these precious moments of your life!
